THIS YEARS COURT ROOM DRAMAS

The council is closing the Shire Hall Gallery at the end of June this year. It is sad to think that this wonderful building will be lost forever, probably being demolished to make way for a car park or department stores.

Before its closure we will be recreating two trials. The first of these,
THE TRIAL OF ANN STATHAM, will be on 18 and 19 May.

The original trial took place in this very court 200 years ago.

The very first Court Room Drama that we performed in this court was

THE TRIAL OF WILLIAM PALMER

Doctor Palmer lived and committed his crimes in Rugeley. His trial should have taken place in this court but it was decided that he may not receive a fair hearing. Consequently the proceedings were moved to
the Central Criminal Court (The Old Bailey)

Having been found guilty of murder he was brought back to Stafford prison where he was hanged. His body is buried in the grounds of the prison.

We thought it quite fitting to end our dramas in this court by once again recreating this trial. It will take place on 22 and 23 June.
